So, it’s happened. You were pulled over and arrested for DUI (in Kansas) or DWI (in Missouri).
Now you want – and need help. You have come to the right place, as the Christopher Angles Law Firm specializes in defending clients against DUI charges in Kansas and DWI charges in Missouri.
First, and most importantly, do NOT panic. Remain calm. People who panic make mistakes, and you cannot afford to make any more mistakes now. There are things you can do to improve your situation. Keep any paperwork the police officers give you as they will be needed soon. Make note of any witnesses to your traffic stop and arrest. You will want to contact them later.
At the earliest possibility, retain a lawyer. A DUI or DWI charge is serious business even for first-time offenders, and such a charge can follow you for years to come and harm your ability to get or keep a job, among other things.
The Angles Law Firm, LLC offers free initial consultations, so you have nothing to lose but your license, your freedom, your money, etc. Call today.
We’re going to assume you are smart and contact an attorney like Christopher Angles who specializes in defending clients against DUI or DWI charges. If you do, the lawyer will help you navigate the rest of the steps we’re about to recommend.
Ask your attorney to request an administrative hearing. Without an administrative hearing, you will automatically lose your driving privileges, so do not skip this important step. Remember – the clock is ticking! In Kansas, you only have 10 days from the day of your arrest to request this hearing; in Missouri, you have 15 days.
While your attorney is getting to work for you, you should be working on things yourself. It is critical that you sit down as soon as possible after your arrest and write down everything you can remember from the moment you were pulled over.
Start with the moment of your arrest and detail everything that happened. Angles Law Firm offers a DUI/DWI Client Questionnaire that you should download and use to help you with this process.
Go back and find the witnesses to your traffic stop or arrest. This may include people at the location where you were drinking who can speak to how much you drank. This would also include any passengers in your car or anyone who was walking by when you were being pulled over or who were watching as any field sobriety tests were performed. Collect contact information and ask witnesses to also prepare a written statement on your behalf.
You should also get yourself – and the vehicle you were driving at the time of your arrest – checked by a professional. Perhaps there is a medical – or mechanical – issue that needs to be considered when your case goes before a judge. Did you have a cold or inner ear infection that could impair your ability to walk a straight line? Are your vehicle’s tires out of alignment, perhaps contributing to wheaving while on the road? Get documentation for any such issues as your attorney may wish to include them as part of your defense.
Your lawyer will help you with most of these things but some require quick action by you, so we wanted to clearly outline for you the critical steps to do right after you are arrested for DUI in Kansas or DWI in Missouri.
The success of your defense depends in large part on the steps you take during and immediately after your arrest.

If you're a Kansas City area teen, or the parents of a teen, you need to understand that in Missouri, texting nude photos or explicit text can constitute a felony and result in charges that range from exploitation of a child and creating, possession and distribution of child pornography.
Sexting, as this is more commonly called, is a relatively new problem in America, and it's caught up to us here in the Kansas City area. For teens, sexting might seem like harmless fun, but it's no joking matter as far as the courts are concerned. Parents need to take sexting very seriously. I recommend you contact an attorney to learn more about your rights and ways you can protect your children from this potentially explosive legal issue.
If you think sexting is exaggerated in the media, consider the case that took place earlier this year in which a prosecutor threatened to charge three teenage girls with child pornography when they took photos of themselves in their bras and some of those images ended up on their classmates' cell phones.
This isn't just happening in Kansas City. It's all over the U.S.A. The best thing you, as a parent, can do is get educated so that you can protect your children.
States are still trying to figure out how to deal with texting, but you should know that Missouri already made up its mind about texting while driving, which is illegal for drivers under the age of 21. The state is now taking up legislation to combat sexting.
Don't wait until your child is charged with a felony. Get informed today.

So, you're due to appear in court in the near future. What should you do to prepare?
It's a question every attorney gets all the time. The answer is simple. You should contact an attorney as soon as possible to review your circumstances. As a Kansas City defense attorney, I like to first hear about the reason you're being called to court. Traffic violation? DUI or DWI? Or does the case rise to the federal level?
It's important that you talk to an experienced attorney right away to understand your rights and to learn about the process. Perhaps the scariest thing about an upcoming court appearance is the uncertainty. What will happen in court? Will the judge ask me questions? What should I be prepared to say? What do I need to know?
There's no reason to panic. An attorney can explain your rights and help you understand how the court appearance will unfold. The attorney can also accompany you to the court appearance and serve as your legal representative.
If you are due to appear in a Kansas City area court, you should call me - Christopher Angles - for a consultation. You don't have to face your court appearance alone.
